Composting Activity
description
Registration is available at this link
In partnership with SMAS Composting, we want to add composting—the transformation of organic matter into natural fertiliser—to the valorization of Jardim Azul's green space. The goal is to implement a community composting system, raise awareness, and educate the community about the sustainable management of organic waste and the importance and potential of agroforestry systems in an urban context. This activity aims to give participants the necessary knowledge to carry out composting.
The resulting compost can be used to fertilise plants in the garden itself.
The process of community composting generates not only environmental benefits, such as reducing the amount of organic waste deposited in landfills, producing a natural fertilizer, increased productivity and soil structure, and increasing water retention, but also social benefits, by promoting citizen participation in waste management and strengthening neighbourhood relations.
The Blue Garden is a project of art and sustainability, energised by EMERGE - Cultural Association, in favour of an active and united local community with the aim of revitalising the public garden of the Casa Azul, in Torres Vedras, where several local associations are based. This project began in 2021 and seeks to have continuity by also involving other entities through partnerships for the revitalization and dynamization of this space.
In this garden, in the historic centre of the city of Torres Vedras, it is intended to restore its beauty so that the local population can enjoy an outdoor space, thus contributing to a better quality of life, particularly for the elderly population or those with reduced mobility. In addition, it is intended that this project create a broader relationship with the city of Torres Vedras for its inhabitants, while promoting the use of resources and awareness of a more sustainable life.
