Exhibition: From Paradise to Vincentian Hell

Abílio de Mattos e Silva Museum

From Paradise to Vicentinian Hell

Abílio de Mattos e Silva and José Carlos Barros met through the Theatre, but cemented their working relationship and friendship through the works of Gil Vicente. In (1978), José Carlos Barros, prop master, and Abílio, set and costume designer, work together and exchange ideas concerning Gil Vicente’s Auto da Geração Humana on the occasion of the reopening of the Queen Maria II National Theatre, in 1978, closed after a violent fire.

Much more unites them, however. The complicity of the words and the passion for the theatre creates among these two artists a permanent and continuous exchange of ideas and mutual accompaniment of their works of which we leave only a small note in this exhibition.
